چکیده
The reuse of treated wastewater (e.g. for irrigation) is a common practice to combat water scarcity problems world-wide. However, the potential spread opportunistic pathogens and fecal contaminants like Enterococci within subsoil could pose serious health hazards. Additional sources (e.g., leaky sewer systems, livestock farming) aggravate this situation. This study contributes an understanding pathogen in environment, using combined modelling experimental approach. impact quartz sediment certain characteristics on dissemination Enterococcus faecalis JH2–2 investigated. transport processes advection-dispersion straining were studied by injecting conservative saline tracer fluorescent microspheres through packed columns, evaluating resulting breakthrough curves models. Similarly, simultaneously occurring reactive microbial attachment, decay, respiration growth suspended with or without dissolved oxygen (DO) nutrients sediment, inlet outlet concentration curves. straining, decay growth, important when DO was absent. Irreversible attachment present. Sensitivity analysis each parameter conducted, field scale behavior predicted, facilitate future work.

Influence of recombination on development of mutational resistance to linezolid in Enterococcus faecalis JH2-2.
We compared the propensities of Enterococcus faecalis JH2-2 and of the recombination-deficient JH2-2 recA strain to develop mutational resistance to linezolid. In both organisms, a mutation in a single rrl copy conferred resistance to linezolid. Delay in acquisition of the mutation by other rrl copies in JH2-2 recA showed that gene conversion contributed to the acquisition of resistance.
متن کاملPrediction of Falling Cylinder Through Air-Water-Sediment Columns
A falling rigid body through air, water, and sediment is investigated experimentally and theoretically. Two experiments were conducted to drop rigid cylinders with density ratio around 1.8 into shallow water (around 13 m deep) in the Monterey Bay (Exp-1) and into the Naval Postgraduate School’s swimming pool (Exp-2). During the experiments, we carefully observe cylinder track and burial depth w...
متن کاملModelling of Sediment Transport in Beris Fishery Port
In this paper, the large amount of sedimentation and the resultant shoreline advancements at the breakwaters of Beris Fishery Port are studied. A series of numerical modeling of waves, sediment transport, and shoreline changes were conducted to predict the complicated equilibrium shoreline. The outputs show that the nearshore directions of wave components are not perpendicular to the coast whic...
متن کاملDifferentiation between cold shock proteins and cold acclimation proteins in a mesophilic gram-positive bacterium, Enterococcus faecalis JH2-2.
Transfer of Enterococcus faecalis to a cold temperature (8 degrees C for 4 to 30 h) led to increased expression of 11 cold shock proteins (CSPs). Furthermore, this mesophilic prokaryote synthesized 10 cold acclimation proteins, five of them distinct from CSPs, during continuous growth (4 days) at the same temperature (8 degrees C).
متن کاملThe ponA gene of Enterococcus faecalis JH2-2 codes for a low-affinity class A penicillin-binding protein.
A soluble derivative of the Enterococcus faecalis JH2-2 class A PBP1 (*PBP1) was overproduced and purified. It exhibited a glycosyltransferase activity on the Escherichia coli 14C-labeled lipid II precursor. As a DD- peptidase, it could hydrolyze thiolester substrates with efficiencies similar to those of other class A penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and bind beta-lactams, but with k2/K (a p...
